The ‘why’ of writing a blog post has already been covered in one of earlier blog posts, 7 Reasons Why Every E-commerce Owners Should Start Their Own Company Blog. The next question that arises is – “How?”
And that is what we intend to answer with this post.
Having decided on what it is that you want to write about, think about all the points that you would like to include to your article, and start bullet pointing all of them. Get yourself a nice little contour of the finished article that you’d like to see published.
Do not leave anything behind – do not think of any point, any thing as something you can’t include – because you’ll have enough time to edit and then proofread the article, and decide on what it is that you want to keep or discard.
Preparing a draft first requires you to think about your ideal reader. Because that will eventually decide the kind of article that you’d be writing – everything from the tone of the article to the vocabulary you’d be using to the length of the sentences and paragraphs – will all be decided by your potential reader.
Once you have a fairly good idea of that, you’ll find yourself ready for this next step called “Write without Fright”. Just let the words spill. Write, write, until you find an actual block – that is, when you don’t know what to write. Don’t stop because you’ve made a spelling error, or because the grammar nazi in you is taking over. No. Again, I’ll say this – you’ll have enough time to get over those very common, yet un-ignorable mistakes when you edit and proofread your post.
Wow! You just arrived to the first part of the two steps that we’ve been talking about. Editing.
Writing any piece makes one realize, that the most important part of writing, is never really writing – it’s always editing. It’s the part where you can’t decide whether to be a critic to yourself, or just try and read everything like a normal reader would. But, the key is getting a balance between these two avatars of yours. Be a fierce critic – the kind who cannot afford to be anything else than a grammar and spelling nazi. And be a casual reader, when it comes to checking the tone of the article; read it like someone who really wants to be informed would, or someone who’d want to read just for the fun of it. But be a little easy on this part, because you can’t be all stiff in the way you think while you’re reading the article – because your reader won’t.
However nicely you might have written your article, it won’t matter if you don’t attract your potential readers to it. And how to do that? Optimizing your article is the answer to that.
Clicking to read an article isn’t about the content, rather about the title that you give it. So, give your article an awesome title, and do not forget to use the keywords in it. Make it easier on the search engine to scan your article, as it will make it easier for your article to rank higher on the Search Engine Ranking Pages.
Make your calls of action very clear. So it means that if in the middle of this article, if I’d like to give you some information on how to make your store SEO friendly, I’d probably do something like this:

You’re just a step away from the final frontier. Get this done, and you know you’ve crossed the finish line. Just go through the article once again. Repeat the editing process, and go through the keywords – check whether you have optimized the article properly or not.
Add beautiful images. You know why? Because you have to make your article aesthetically good, before you can expect people to actually go through it. So, do not forget this final step, and after being done with this, do not forget to congratulate yourself on having created an awesome article!
